Earlier this week I went back to one of my “go to” breakfasts – an egg white veggie scramble with a little fruit on the side and a small homemade muffin. For a couple of days last week I had gotten into the habit of Greek yogurt with whole grain cereal in the morning because of my busy schedule. When the pace slowed down a bit, I suddenly realized I was missing out on the opportunity to add extra vegetables into my diet by including them as part of breakfast.
Start your day with some vegetables and protein from egg whites
Having a little protein along with vegetables in the morning helps your body get started and can help keep you from feeling too hungry mid-morning. This will help you avoid the temptation of a mid-morning sugary snack which may beckon from your office conference room. Eating breakfast provides fuel for our body and contains nutrients we need such as vitamins and minerals which are important to our health.
Eating a good breakfast can help you maintain your weight
Research from the National Weight Control Registry includes a study focused on people who have lost at least 30 pounds and have kept the weight off for at least one year . The study reports that 78% of the people on the registry eat breakfast every day.
Your body is in a “fasting state” overnight while you are sleeping. When you get up in the morning, give your body some fuel to get your day started right. A good breakfast can help you avoid overeating later in the day. Overeating can add unwanted pounds and set you back on maintaining your healthy diet.
The next time you want a new a breakfast idea, try an egg white veggie scramble as a way to help you stay on the path of healthy eating.
