  1. preheat oven to 375 F
  2. Bake the yam(s) for 45 min to an hour until they are soft and easy to mash. Mash them so they will blend easily with the other ingredients.
  3. In the meantime, chop the onion, kale and mushrooms into small pieces (mince). Add these ingredients together with the oatmeal, and mix gently.
  4. When yams are cool, put them into a large bowl along with the other ingredients. Mix with your hands (wear gloves) until mixture is well combined and can be molded into patties.
  5. Place bowl in refrigerator with plastic wrap cover, for 15-20 minutes.
  6. When you are ready to grill, make the patties and let them rest until you are ready to cook them.
